Epilaeliocattleya Painted Hill Star 'Roy's Rainbow'
Eplc. Painted Hill Star is one of the first Marble Branch Farms crosses we registered with the RHS. It is Epc. Rene Marques x L. anceps. We sold out in 2009 of all the available plants from the first incarnation of this hybrid. That was also the first year that a number of them began to show their first flowers. This year, at the Atlanta Orchid Show in March, 6 different plants from the cross were exhibited by various individuals, and some were truly impressive. Our favorite of all is this one we named 'Roy's Rainbow' after Roy Harrow, the grower and fellow ATLOS member who flowered it. Being still fairly young plants, we expect these to be more spectacular and floriferous in coming years and some will possibly win more than just blue ribbons as awards! Roy generously gave this particular clone back to us, and though it doesn't have as good of form as some others, the color pattern is truly eye popping. We may consider having it mericloned in the future. In the meantime, we have remade the cross and are trying to grow up a new batch as fast as we can.
