Cattleya dowiana ‘Net Dream’ (2.5” pot young plant)

Product Description
Photo is the flower of the exact form we are offering. Here is a chance to own an exceptionally good example of this magnificent, fragrant late summer to fall blooming species from Colombia. On many examples the petals can be reflexed and thrust forward, detracting from the overall beauty of the flowers. But Cattleya dowiana forma aurea ‘Net Dream’ has excellent shape to accompany the magnificent purple lip heavily veined in gold. The species is legendary for its beauty and figures in the ancestry of almost 35,000 registered orchid hybrids. To grow it well does require a modicum of skill, and keeping in mind a couple of important requirements. Drainage is essential and the plant should be able to dry quickly after being watered, so they grow best in baskets or in pots with very open large and long-lasting medium. In a controlled environment it could also be mounted on a large slab of cork. Watering and feeding should be fairly frequent from May through October but reduced whenever plants are not in active growth, typically in the winter months. Bright light and good air movement are recommended. The reward for paying close attention to the needs of Cattleya dowianaa aurea are the amazing large flowers unlike any other species. This listing is for young mericlone of this variety in 2.5” pots. We also have a few larger plants in 4" baskets listed separately. Expect a minimum of 1 to 2 years until flowering for the larger size and 3 years for the smaller.
