Dendrobium glomeratum (2.5" pot very large plant)

New! Dendrobium is a varied and fascinating genus divided into at least 40 sections, each with its own unique habits. Dendrobium glomeratum, sometimes also labeled Den. sulawesiense is from the warm tropical lowland forests of New Guinea and the Molucca Islands where the conditions do not vary much throughout the year. It is “gradually deciduous” with each growth taking a couple of years to fully develop before beginning to drop its leaves. The older, bare canes are the ones that flower and can do so from various points long their length and at various times of the year for several years. Typically, a mature plant will produce several bursts of bloom each year and the flowers last up to two months. Each bloom is bright pink to magenta with a contrasting orange lip and can be from 1.5 to 2 inches across, borne in clusters. An older plant can produce an impressive show, but some patience is required to reach that stage. We’ve done the harder work for you by growing these up to large, up to 36 inch, multigrowth plants crowded into 2.5” pots that are just reaching the stage where they can begin to flower. The show will only get better from here on out. This orchid likes medium light levels, warm growing conditions and year-round watering with slight drying in between. It does best if the pot is kept small for the size of the plant and only stepped up when it is truly overflowing the container. It can also grow mounted but will need frequent watering. The stems will sprawl or can be individually staked if horizontal space is an issue.
