Dendrobium schuetzei (3.5” pot blooming size)

New! This species is one of several Dendrobium with white flowers from the Philippines. It is often called the “Giant White Dendrobium” because the flowers are larger than other species at between 3.5 and 4 inches across and occur in clusters of up to 5 or 6 on mature plants. The plant itself is stiffly upright with two ranked leaves, topping out at between 12 and 14 inches tall which is shorter than Den. sanderae also from the Philippines. Long lasting flowers emerge quickly from nodes near the top of the stems and can occur at various times of the year in cultivation but favoring fall and winter. They open out flat and well-shaped with just a touch of green in the throat to offset their snowy whiteness. Give this orchid moderately bright light and regular watering with only slight drying throughout the year. It does best in warm conditions but can tolerate cooler nights in the 50’s in a greenhouse.
