Dendrobium Jiaho Delight ‘Red Lips’ (2.5” pot blooming size)

New! This new release is in the Nigrohirsute group of Dendrobiums, so called because the plant is covered in fine, dark fuzz, especially noticeable on developing growth and buds. This group likes bright light, regular watering with drying in between all year long, much like the culture for a typical cattleya type orchid. The long lasting nice sized flowers are icy pale cream green with deeper green veins, set off by a fuzzy lip that opens yellow and matures to fiery orange-red. While these have started blooming on growths only about 6 inches tall, their newest growths are about 12 inches tall and that is the height range we expect from all new growth henceforth. Each cane flowers in random places at random times of the year and for several years, giving you flushes of bloom off and on throughout the calendar. While the 2.5” square pots seem small for the plants, we recommend only stepping them up once the pot is filled to overflowing as they bloom and grow better when cramped. Mature plants seem to do especially well in clay pots.
