Maxillaria tenuifolia (4" pot large blooming size)
This easy to grow orchid from Mexico and Central America is famous for the “coconut pie” fragrance of its cute dark red flowers that emerge from around the base of new growths in spring. We are offering much larger plants than are normally seen for sale, which, as represented by our example photograph, are easily capable of producing dozens of blooms with their next flowering. Give this orchid medium light levels (can also be grown under LED lights), intermediate to warm temperatures, and keep plants fairly moist when actively growing, then reduce somewhat after growths mature, but don’t let plants stay dry for long periods. Growers regularly cultivate Maxillaria tenuifolia into bushy specimen plants with hundreds of flowers. Plants can also easily be divided when they become large. This is always a favorite and our supply of such impressive sized plants will sell out quickly.
