Gastrophaius Micro Burst 'Orchtober Fest,' AM/AOS (5" pot blooming size)
New! This awarded form of Gastrophaius Micro Burst has larger flowers and a different color patter from the ‘Wild Thing’ variety we also offer. As you can from the photo with a tape measure, the blooms can be 5 inches across from tip to tip. Like other forms, the back of each flowers is stark white, while in this type the front of the segments is chartreuse, overlaid with pink, and the lip is entirely sold dark purple for stunning contrast. Foliage is about 24 inches in height and the spikes can reach about 36 inches with over a dozen flowers that open in succession over a couple of months. The original plant was awarded in February, but we have had blooms on some plants in summer, so the timing of flowers can vary, depending mainly on when the most recent growth has fully developed. This is a terrestrial orchid that likes more water and fertilizer than most orchids, and can sit in a shallow saucer that holds water to help it stay wet longer. When the water in the saucer is gone, then you can water again! Plants grow quickly to becomel clumps with multiple spikes. All of these are robust blooming size in 5” round pots. Limited supply, one per customer please!
