Cymbidium Devon Odyssey (4” pot near blooming size)
New! This very cool Cymbidium combines Cym. devonianum and Cym. erythrostylum, two of the more unusual and more compact growing species in the genus. The plants have broader foliage than typical Cymbidiums and stay under 18 inches in height. They will flower in winter with arching spikes of intriguing dusty pink flowers with dark black-burgundy lips, that are long lasting. Fully mature plants can produce up to 20 or more medium sized flowers per spike. Grow this plant in moderately bright light and keep it well watered year round. During the growing season, if you replant in a deeper pot with a well draining mix enriched with compost, you can allow the plant to sit in a saucer of water with very good results. In winter, less water is needed, but the pot should not totally dry out. Avoid high heat in summer, or keep the plant shadier to compensate. Cooler nights in fall will likely help stimulate better flowering, and this orchid can tolerate even chilly weather, but should be brought in if temperatures fall below freezing.
