Dendrobium Fire Wings (3.5” pot mature blooming size)
New batch - very full plants! Dendrobium Fire Wings is a great addition to the new breed of “Semi-Latouria” types – it is one quarter each of 3 different Latouria types, known for being able to grow well in household temperatures year round and medium light levels, and one quarter Phalaenopsis type to bring in color and add a nice upright stance to the spikes of wide-spreading flowers, which are very long lasting and a produced by mature canes repeatedly over several years. While each is slightly different, they all feature lots of purply-pink painted across a white background, with more intense color in the lip. This orchid is adaptable to a range of light levels, from medium to high and well suited for “windowsill” culture. It does fine in the 60-80 degree range most people keep their homes within, but also adaptable to as low as 55 and as high as 95 if air movement is good. Water this type of Dendrobium regularly year round, just as the media is becoming dry, and fertilize only lightly, but on a regular basis. These are very husky plants with multiple growths, just reaching blooming size since the growths must be one or two years old before they will start to spike. They are in 3.5” pots, but are ready for 5 inch pots soon. Mature plants will have multiple spikes twice per year, and flowers easily last 2 or 3 months on each spike. A very rewarding orchid!
