Dendrobium glomeratum (3.5 inch pot blooming size)
New! This is a fantastic and rewarding Dendrobium species that makes long lasting, large, bright flowers and is easy to grow under basic “Phalaenopsis” conditions – 60 to 85 degrees, fairly shaded and with even moisture throughout the year. It is actually tolerant of 50’s to 90’s as well so will do fine in an intermediate or warm growing situation – flourishing in the shade of your cattleya types and producing flushes of vivid blooms off and on throughout the year. Typical for Dendrobium, this plant blooms off fully mature canes that are usually starting to lose their leaves, or are completely bare already. Opposite where each leaf had been in a dormant eye capable of flowering, and it will take several to many years for the plant to use up all those eyes, all the time continually producing new canes for future generations of blooms. Each flower is about 1.5 to 2 inches across, with bright pink to vivid magenta petals that carry a satiny sheen, and a small, but bright orange lip for contrast. They are borne in clusters of 2 to 6 – sometimes a few a time, and other times in large flushes all over the plant – pretty much at any time of the year with the heaviest bloom frequently in summer. Each flower last 2 or 3 months, so mature plants can be in flower most of the year. Water heavily while actively growing, and somewhat less, but not allowing the plants to dry completely when growths are mature and no new growths are forming. We are offering nice blooming size plants with several mature canes and additional ones developing in 3.5” pots. While only about 12" tall at this point, mature plants can sprawl, so keep that in mind. They do well hung up so that the long canes of older plants can cascade out and down. But if space is an issue each can can be individually staked upright and will still flower beautifully. Flowering on the older growths should commence within the year and some have already produced their first blooms. A must have plant for your collection! Very Limited!
