Procatavola Walnut Vally Lime Stars (4 inch net pot blooming size)
New! This cross between Cattleychea Lime Sherbet and Brassavola Little Stars can make flowers of impressive size for that pairing, often 4 or more inches across, which gives them real presence! Many of the plants that have received one of the 6 flower quality awards from the American Orchid Society have had flowers approaching 5 inches. And while you may start out with one to the spike, as in our photo of a first blooming seedling (in a 5 inch basket), but as the plants mature there can be 3 or 4 on a spike, and the plants will bloom roughly two times per year, favoring late fall and late spring. We stepped these up to 4 inch net pots with holes added for a 3 wire hanger if desired and they are right at blooming size. As they grow out of their containers, we recommend simply slipping the plant, net pot and all, into a larger basket or pot. The media on the mature plants should be very open so that they dry fairly quickly after watering. We started with plants in 2 inch pots a couple years ago and have been selling them off at shows and speaking engagements, so our supply of blooming size/near blooming size plants is limited. One per customer please!
