C. Fire Lighter x Lc. Ann Akagi (stick mounted near blooming size)

New! This cute little mini-catt is finally reaching blooming size as we are very pleased with the results. We crossed the tiny, bright red, and somewhat fussy C. Fire Lighter with the easy to grow compact and free flowering, orchid pink Lc. Ann Akagi, hoping to achieve a “hot pink” miniature grower that blooms frequently. That color is not common in the compact growing cattleyas. The photos show two of the first to bloom and they definitely have given us the color we were looking for, with the addition of plenty of color interest in the lip. Of course, these are seedlings, so there will be variation, and some could be lighter pink, or a blend of pinks, while a few may be deep magenta to red. We found that this orchid prefers to be mounted and does very well when grown this way. We are offering very near blooming size stick mounted plants. Those that have bloomed so far have repeated off and on throughout the year on plants under 6 inches in height. They may grow as tall as 8 to 10 inches when fully mature.
